The Gospel of Mark relates that Jesus, before his ascension back into heaven, spoke with the remaining eleven apostles. At this time he presented them with a commission, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” This commission holds the same importance today as it did in the first century.

The mission program at Washington Ave. includes worldwide involvement in telling the story of Jesus. We have made a strong commitment to the Christians in throughout the world. We are currently involved with the Christians in Minsk and Molodechno Belarus, work in Tanzania, and have been long time supporters of Eddison Fowler and his work in Brazil.

Mission work, is much more than just sending money to specific locations. Here at Washington Ave. we continue to demonstrate personal involvement in the mission process. Some of our members travel to Belarus to assist the work there. As part of the Belarus work, we support two young men who preach there.

For some time we have assisted the with educating men for the ministry. We have in the past supported students at the East Tennessee School of Preaching and Missions. We plan to continue this effort.

Many of our own members preach at area congregations. Our Youth Group participates each summer in an evangelistic campaign and some of our retirees work with the Sojourners assisting congregations throughout our own country.

There is much more to the story!
